Extremists manipulated Christian language about obedience and order, using religious authority structures to legitimise control, while others resisted and sheltered victims.

Who made the birds?
This question often asked by believers exposes how little of the natural process of evolution they understand. Birds were not made. They evolved. They share ancestry with other animals. Their wings are modified forelimbs. Their feathers evolved from earlier structures that once served other purposes. Every feature has a history. There is no moment of creation. There is only change over time. Asking who made the birds is like asking who made the accent of a language. It misunderstands the nature of the phenomenon entirely.
